@ Lucy. Sorry it took me a year to find your comment! But I did so whilst admiring this work. I agree it should be rated a five. However the idea behind having ratings is that one cannot ban the public or there would be no putiton! Please do not forget that throughout history we ignore or kill our prophets. Van gogh died a pauper for the same reason. He too should have been " rated " Highly. But wasn't. Very often it's too late. There is nothing we can do about that, but what we can do here is support those artists we like. And for me Casey is one of them. Respect. As a member of this community I will always try to champion his work, because it is exceptional. And that is our duty as memebers, all of us. We create the movement in the ocean. And it is up to us. What we cannot do is force someone to like something. But we try to narrow the gap, by showing that we have talent, not just a an individual, but as the people.
I understand that art is a subjective, sometimes elitist world. But from the moment we have artists like Casey on here we are able to show the world that talent. Someone sitting in a remote part of china may not be able to see someone's work in los angeles in the flesh, but now they can via the internet. What is more important is we can chat and exchange views also. Which henceforth cxreates a global community of aspiring talent. Something that I believe still needs to happen for my generation.
Thanks,
Greg.

thanks Lucy for sticking up for me! lol, I need to get you to represent me. :) And just in case anyone was thinking Lucy and I are related--we're not, she just knows good work when she sees it. ;) Feb 25, 2010 Casey Childs
ok if i'm to feel confident in this site tell me this ..how could this be rated anything less than a 5? i've just trawled through a few pages of inferior work in the top rated section to reach this wonder..and i frankly wonder why? is this a popularity contest or a serious art site? feeling a tad disillusioned here. well all i can say is you are all over my favourites section. respect! wow, thanks for all the comments! I've now finished this piece so I'll get some updated photos out here. Greg, thanks for your honest critique. I agree with you about how the background made her come more forward before, but I felt that made her disconnected with her environment. And, as Ashley so wonderfully wrote, I wanted a modern portrait with a classical feel. It might not look like it but my inspiration for this was Sargent's Madame X. Again, I appreciate your comments. I wonder if the girl in the picture is someone real...since she reminds me of someone quite famous. But I love how the image of the girl makes her one of those girls who are BAD in someway. Great concept, keep up the good work!! Aug 14, 2009 Abdullaziz Al Mannaei
I love how she and the cat have the same cold stare. Aug 4, 2009 Suzette G. Vida

What a great moment in time... Jul 18, 2009 Roy Apps
i love this, a real modern portrait with a classic feel, her attitude seems pretty real, i'd love to see some highlights on her face to bring out the humanity against the dull background (i like it dull!) can't wait to see it finished Jun 4, 2009 Ashley Fontones
I love her attitude, I love the cat and I love the fact we can see this work in progress. This is fantastic! May 9, 2009 solveig fraser
Did you soften the exposed side of her face? I liked the roughness of her jaw too... May 8, 2009 greg fraser
I love this painting, but for me her face was the key. Not trying to be funny, She had more expression when her background was unfinished...
I like the unfinished version because it made her face stick out. Now that the whole piece is more uniform, she seems more normal, less of a character. Still a great painting though. Also I thought her shoulders lost some depth. The white was adding to the overall glare, so she was more blinding before....
